House So Dark in Winter

You invited Celestial Beings to bless our love

Now look what we’ve got

Feathered creatures peeping in all the open windows

If one of them crosses the window sill, you know what that means

It means heartache in the bed of the whippoorwill

They’re shooting glances at your wine glass on the nightstand

I’m getting up now to shutter the panes

Hope, like sunrise, sits on the horizon

An open bodice floating on black sails

                The heartfelt horizon

It’s bad luck to draw attention to our love

So let’s just keep Celestial Beings out of the bedroom
